May 2017 News Update

We have been overwhelmed once again by your precious and beautiful One Mother to Another gifts. This campaign brings so much joy – we have been receiving toiletry packs from individuals, mother’s groups and work colleagues – even a gym. The messages you include are heartful and inspiring. Thank you.

Volunteer Emilia

Thanks to you, our wonderful St Kilda Mums community, this Facebook request for boys clothing last month has been seen by more than 125,000 people – our greatest reach ever.

Boy in Park

Your generosity in both sharing the message and sharing your children’s clothing means that some children in Melbourne won’t go cold this winter, but we want to make sure that all Victorian children kept warm.

Regional Coordinator Danielle

We are expanding into regional Victoria thanks to the generous support of the Ian Potter Foundation and The Gourlay Charitable Trust.  Danielle joins our Social Service team as our Regional Coordinator, establishing partnerships with social services, maternity wards and maternal and child health nurses in country and regional Victoria. She is initially concentrating on establishing our service into the Gippsland and south eastern region then expanding further north across Victoria. We are looking for transportation partners to work with us delivering to regional areas. If you can help us or would like more information about this exciting extension of our service then please contact danielle@stkildamums.org.

National Volunteer Week

St Kilda Mums is celebrating our volunteers with cake every morning during National Volunteer Week. More than a time to thank our volunteers, National Volunteer Week highlights the contribution that volunteers make to organisations Australia-wide. St Kilda Mums is powered by the energy and love of our volunteers. If you would like to find out more about volunteering at St Kilda Mums please email volunteer@stkildamums.org.

Volunteer Georgi

Introducing Georgi

When did you start volunteering at St Kilda Mums?
I started volunteering at St Kilda Mums in July 2016.

What inspired you to volunteer?
I was inspired to give my time and energy. After dropping off a donation, one of the volunteers was so kind, genuine and inspiring, I sent in my application as soon as I got home.

What’s your volunteer role at St Kilda Mums?
My volunteer role involves sorting, bundling and receiving donations. This week we had many donations of One Mother to Another gift bags, which I absolutely love. The generosity of people is amazing.

What does a typical volunteer shift look like for you?
I work Wednesday and every other Saturday. I really enjoy the contact with new people and smiling faces. We laugh and get to work, helping families in need. I enjoy making bundles, giving children the chance to wear something special or even providing footwear so a sports day can be attended. When a special request from a social worker comes through and we are able to give out a premmie bag in a hurry, it feels inspiring.

What do you love about volunteering?
I love volunteering because its gives time and respect to those people who need help.

What would you say to anyone that is thinking about volunteering at St Kilda Mums?
I would say to anyone considering volunteering at St Kilda Mums, give it a go!  A few hours makes a difference to many and there are great people to meet.

Jodie Collecting Car Seats

This is Jodie collecting four car seats for one family. Their car had been stolen. When the police recovered it the seats had been removed. This family has a baby and three other children under 7 so they needed seats immediately to get around. We were able to supply them thanks to you and your donations. We say it all the time but it indeed does take a village!
