Our Impact, Our Numbers

As always, it's been a busy couple of months at St Kilda Mums. With your support, we've been helping hundreds of families through the cold winter.

We've pulling together the numbers of impact from the past 12 months and I am delighted to share them with you today. When you see the figures on the page, the impact you are making, to thousands of families, becomes crystal clear.

I want to take this opportunity to show you how you make a difference. (We know that this graph is hard to read - especially on your phone - so if you want more detail please click here to open this up in your favourite web browser).

Our Impact, Our Numbers

Your Impact

Your support - which comes to us in so many ways - provided 5,323 babies and 13,212 children across Victoria with the essential nursery equipment and clothing they needed over the past 12 months.

This is a 37% increase on last year and shows there is no limit on the number of families your generosity can help. We know that 1 in 6 babies are born into poverty; that's 13,000 babies every year - your help reached an incredible 5,323 of them in 12 months. We know that, with you, we can grow our service to reach thousands of more babies and children who need our help.

It costs us $118 to help a child. I have simply taken last year's operating budget and divided it by the number of children you helped. That $118 includes our rent, bills, salaries and the purchase of any stock. When you think that just one item of nursery equipment would cost a family hundreds of dollars at the shops, this is really something. It is only possible for two reasons; because of the donations we receive from people like you, and because we are powered by volunteers.

The value of the items we rehomed in the past 12 months is $6,487,517. Not only does this represent a huge cost saving to social service agencies, but it also represents thousands of items of good quality nursery equipment and clothing saved from landfill.

Because of you, 96% of the items we rehomed were pre-loved. Occasionally we need to buy cots, prams and car seats when stocks are low, but the majority of what we give families has been donated by you, our community. You are playing a huge role in saving our planet, and we are so grateful!

Thank you from a social worker

Thank you from a social worker

Last week, we received a thank you note from a regional caseworker supporting a mother who had to flee domestic violence with newborn twins:

"I wanted to let you know how thrilled and overwhelmed one of my clients was after receiving clothing, car seats, nappies and food for her twin boys. When she saw the package of toiletries especially for her she became emotional. She wanted me to convey her gratitude and her sense of privilege receiving these things that she was unable to provide without financial hardship."

Thank you for showing this family, and thousands of other families facing hardship, that there is someone who cares when they need it most.
